چکیده

Phonetic markedness regarding linguistically relevant tonal patterns (Accent 2, boundary tones) in Central Swedish is discussed. Both tonal markedness and F0 turning points are assumed to be important cues for anticipatory attention to grammatical structure during speech processing. Empirical evidence from neurolinguistic and psycholinguistic experiments for the assumed relation between anticipatory attention and marked tonal patterns’ association with Swedish word and clause structures is presented.

Against Markedness (and What to Replace It With)

This paper first provides an overview of the various senses in which the terms "marked" and "unmarked" have been used in 20th century linguistics. Twelve different senses, related only by family resemblances, are distinguished, grouped into four larger classes: Markedness as complexity, as difficulty, as abnormality, and as a multidimensional correlation. In the second part of the paper, it is ...

The Uniqueness Theorem for the Solutions of Dual Equations of Sturm-Liouville Problems with Singular Points and Turning Points

In this paper, linear second-order differential equations of Sturm-Liouville type having a finite number of singularities and turning points in a finite interval are investigated. First, we obtain the dual equations associated with the Sturm-Liouville equation. Then, we prove the uniqueness theorem for the solutions of dual initial value problems.

Anticipatory detection of turning in humans for intuitive control of robotic mobility assistance.

Many wearable lower-limb robots for walking assistance have been developed in recent years. However, it remains unclear how they can be commanded in an intuitive and efficient way by their user. In particular, providing robotic assistance to neurologically impaired individuals in turning remains a significant challenge. The control should be safe to the users and their environment, yet yield su...

Anticipatory smiling: linking early affective communication and social outcome.

In anticipatory smiles, infants appear to communicate pre-existing positive affect by smiling at an object and then turning the smile toward an adult. We report two studies in which the precursors, development, and consequences of anticipatory smiling were investigated. Study 1 revealed a positive correlation between infant smiling at 6 months and the level of anticipatory smiling at 8 and 10 m...
